Pick up Wildlife Habitat Applications at Camano Island Library

posted Jul 14, 2017, 3:42 PM by Roxie Rochat
To assist the Camano Wildlife Habitat Projects quest for 1,000 certified wildlife habitats, applications are now available at the Camano Island Library, a certified wildlife habitat. The National Wildlife Federation certifies properties that provide food, water, shelter, and a place to raise young while using responsible gardening practices.

The motivation of being a Community Wildlife Habitat is to have neighbors link yards and reestablish wildlife corridors. Looking at Camanos habitat map provides evidence of this and has been demonstrated on several of the garden tours that have had adjoining properties to visit.

The National Wildlife Federation certified Camano Island as the tenth community wildlife habitat in the nation in 2005. There are now 894 NWF-certified wildlife habitats on the island.

The project hosts Backyard Wildlife Habitat programs the third Wednesday of the month at the Island County Multi-Purpose Center. For information, about the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks, call 360-387-2236, visit, or email
