A message from Brenda Cunningham of the Salal Native Plant Society:

Thank you all who came out and made the Salal Chapter’s fall native plant sale a huge success. Far more people came out than I expected, given the poor weather conditions. I really appreciated that! I am sorry for those who were not able to find the plants they wanted, as we sold out of a number of species very early on. I will do my best to secure more of the popular species, like Salal and deer fern, for the spring sale. We buy some species wholesale and without a greenhouse to protect those little pots from the cold winds of winter I did not want to over-purchase. I will do my best to have plenty in stock in the spring.

Our spring sale will have some small shrubs like Salal and Boxwoods, but much of the plant material will be perennial flowers, ferns, ground covers, sub-shrubs and bulbs like Fritillaria. Watch for a list to come out in March. In the meantime, please mark your calendars for April 30th, 2016, 10 am to noon.

The Salal Native Plant Garden is located behind the Master Gardener Display Garden at the NW Research Center on Memorial Highway (16650 SR 536), west of Mount Vernon. Built by volunteers from the Salal Chapter of the WA Native Plant Society, the garden is a terrific resource for homeowners who want to learn how to incorporate more native plants into their landscaping.
