Learn how to attract butterflies and beneficial insects to your garden at 7 p.m., Wed, March 16th at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive. Did you know that bees are responsible for pollinating every third bite of food we eat, that the incorrect use of harsh pesticides can actually result in more bugs instead of fewer, and that even "safe" insecticides like B.t. can harm beneficial insects if not used properly?
Master Gardeners Rosalie Myers and Virgene Link, curators of the insect collection at the Skagit WSU Extension office and experts in IPM (Integrated Pest Management), will identify both beneficial and harmful insects and help you choose a combination of tactics to prevent problems and keep pest populations under control.
They will also hand out free Lemon Queen Sunflower seeds for the "Great Sunflower Project" and identify pollinators targeted by this citizen science project.
