Celebrate Friends of Camano Island Parks’ 20 years of promoting Better Parks — A Better Place to Live! Wednesday, October 15, 7 pm, at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N East Camano Drive. Before 1994, with just a state park and a handful of tiny public spaces, getting to the beach or the forest was tough. Opportunities changed when FOCIP members found ways to protect Camano’s forests and shorelines. Each of these natural places has its story. Join Val Schroeder, author of Exploring Camano Island: A History and Guide, exploring Camano Island’s parks and preserves while saluting the community volunteers who worked to preserve them. The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by FOCIP, hosts public presentations the third Wednesday of the month.  For information, call 360-387-2236, visit or e-mail
