To assist the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project’s quest for 1,000 certified wildlife habitats, Pilar Galup, Habitat Steward 2015, designed a Camano Certified Wildlife Habitat yard sign. Displaying these signs provides the Camano flair that the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project has been delivering since the project began in 2002. The signs add incentive and excitement to join the vision of Creating an Island in Harmony with Nature — One Yard at a Time!
yard signs promote the project and provide a wildlife habitat education
to neighbors. People who see the habitat signs in certified yards call
to ask about the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project. The motivation of
being a Community Wildlife Habitat is to have neighbors link yards and
reestablish wildlife corridors. Looking at Camano’s habitat map provides
evidence of this and has been demonstrated on several of the garden
tours that have had adjoining properties to visit.
The National Wildlife Federation certified Camano Island as the tenth community wildlife habitat in the nation in 2005. There are now 865 wildlife habitats certified by the National Wildlife Federation on the island. Yards can be certified at NWF.org or at any Camano Wildlife Habitat Project events.Signs will be sold for $15 to people who have certified their yards with the National Wildlife Federation. That could be newly certified yards or yards that are already certified.
To purchase a sign, your wildlife certificate number will be needed. (This is necessary whether it’s a Camano yard sign or the National Wildlife Federation’s sign available at their website NWF.org). To order a sign, please come to a Backyard Wildlife Habitat program the third Wednesday of the month (except Dec) at the Camano Multipurpose Center, contact us at email@example.com, or call 360-387-2236.
