About Us
Our Camano Wildlife Habitat Project is a positive way to protect and preserve our land, water, and wildlife on Camano and beyond. By caring for what we do in our own yards, we have a sanctuary at home, and we connect and influence what our neighbors around us and beyond do. We now have over 1000 certified wildlife habitats on Camano. In the nation, there are more than 250,000 certified wildlife habitats and 140 community wildlife habitats. If you have concerns for the environment, what we do in our own yards does spread. One yard at a time makes it all doable.
Camano Island is the nation’s tenth nationally certified community wildlife habitat and one of 18 Communities Taking Action in Washington.
The origins and vision of the Camano Wildlife Habitat project were featured in a story in NWF's Spring 2018 issue: Community Hero: Creating Connections in Paradise and in an April 2022 NWF Blog post: Garnering Successes, Gardening for Wildlife: A Camano Island Volunteer with a Passion for Conservation.
The project is sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks (FOCIP) with support from the National Wildlife Federation.
